____________
The German Shepherd was originally bred as a working dog in Germany in the late 19th century. They were used for herding sheep, guarding livestock, and assisting the police and military. Their strength, stamina, keen sense of smell, problem-solving ability, ability to form strong social bonds with humans and their inborn “protectiveness” make them suitable for many tasks such as service dogs for the blind, search and rescue, guard/watch dogs and apprehension of criminal suspects.
